Everyone has a different idea about how to modernize a classic series. Some believe that 3D graphics and gameplay are the way, while others feel that more polished visuals will do.
By now, SEGA’s attempts at revitalizing the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise (at least in the eyes of older fans and critics, as the games still manage to sell well to a younger audience) has recently taken a turn to look at both ways, with the fully-3D Sonic ..read the full article
Earlier this year, a preliminary version of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 was leaked. Reaction from the head-start hedgehog huggers was poor, and SEGA took the game back into development, delaying its release so they could fine-tune it further.
In particular, fans reacted quite harshly to an area known as Act 2 of the Lost Labyrinth Zone, which featured a mine cart section which was said to be controlled by motion controls on the Wii and PlayStation ..read the full article
If you keep up with the media world, you’re likely to have heard about The Expendables- an action film to end all action films. If you’ve got an account then you can warm up for the movie’s release with this 8-Bit Facebook game.
As you can see, The Expendables is going to be brilliant. It’s already decided- Stallone, Arnie, and Willis all in the same film? How can it fail? It doesn’t even need to have any kind of narrative or ..read the full article

Lost Nintendo Games is a series of articles about Nintendo games that have been lost to Nintendo fans. This usually means that the game has been canceled or the game was just not released in a particular region for whatever reason. Let us not forget about the Nintendo titles that many people never got to play.

When Swedish software engineer and musician Linus Åkesson was given an old electric organ, he didn’t just resign it to the corner of the room. No, he first turned it into an amazing chiptune-playing masterpiece, capable of putting out endless amounts of classic music from the old days of gaming on the fly- and then put it in the corner of the room.
Luckily, he also made some footage of the Chipophone while it was there, so we can all revel ..read the full article
Joseph Baum has designed a wonderfully subtle Star Fox T-Shirt- and guess what? It’s for sale. As you can see, the shirt features Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, Fox himself, and Falco Lombardi, all nonchalantly standing on the moon.
The shirt is for sale at Threadless here, for just $18. Well, not just $18: it’s $5 for US shipping and $10 for Standard International shipping. So nearly thirty dollars for someone like me, then. Still, I think it might even be ..read the full article
Pac-Man and Namco founder Masaya Nakamura are to be entered into the International Video Game Hall of Fame in a few weeks’ time. This comes as a part of the Hall of Fame’s “Big Bang 2010″ event, which will feature tournaments, celebrities, concerts, and a whole lot of Pac-Man.
“We’re going to be focusing a ton on Pac Man,” said Dan Canny, vice president of the IVGHOF board. Unfortunately Nakamura won’t be attending the ceremony, but ““A team of corporate ..read the full article
Simpler than any so-called “casual” game, yet more addictive than perhaps any other title to carry the “hardcore” label, Tetris has been a tested, tried and true phenomenon for decades. No story, no flashy cutscenes, not even any real characters to speak of.
But admit it: you’ve always wondered where those pieces come from.
The answer is amazingly simple, as it turns out, and yet it will shock and amaze you just the same. As you can see ..read the full article
Every video game loving kid at one point or another has been scolded by their parents to “go outside and stop playing your damn video games!” Most of us would just grab our mobile gaming device and head outside, but this little “Match Moving” curb side study by Andreas Heikus, a “young compositor fresh from University hunting for a job,” will open your eyes to a totally different method for achieving outdoor video gaming bliss.

The online marketplaces of XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare have been a great place for gamers and developers alike. We’re seeing more small (and large) developers than ever before pushing out great games for these platforms, and the market for them can only get bigger. We’re seeing more original game concepts than ever before on these platforms, alongside a collection of classic games.
The current generation of consoles seems to be a perfect place for development teams to test news ideas, ..read the full article
We learned recently that Telltale Games, well known for their work on popular titles such as Sam & Max, the recent Tales of Monkey Island remakes, and Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, recently acquired the license to create episodic games based on Back to the Future. Short of a Winter 2010 release, we knew nothing more about these games, but that changes today.
Perhaps inspired by the recent Ghostbusters: The Video Game, it appears that the ..read the full article
The stars and hype for EA Sports’ upcoming NBA Jam title may not be the only thing that’s heating up; it appears that whatever contracts that placed it as a Wii-exclusive title may also be going up in smoke.
At least, that’s how it may appear on the outset. Numerous outlets are reporting that despite being touted as a title exclusive to the Wii, rumors from earlier this year look as though they may be true.

Many people didn’t know this (present company included) but in the late 90s, Blizzard was working on an adventure game based on Warcraft, but with the style of Monkey Island. Unfortunately, this project was scrapped in 1998 when Blizzard didn’t think they could meet any deadlines or compete with Monkey Island III. In March, the above footage appeared online of a walk through the game’s alpha.
Yes, the footage is fairly old, but since many people haven’t seen the footage, (hell, ..read the full article
These days, video game consoles are not an uncommon site in households across America, particularly in homes with children, or of adults who grew up in the 1980s. But that wasn’t always the case.
As many older gamers (or at least those who follow the history of the business) well know, video games had pretty much bottomed out in 1983, and for a time, no retailer wanted to have anything to do with them, leaving arcades as the ..read the full article

Apes I can understand, but how in the hell did the DualShock evolve into the Dumb Jock?
Twenty years from now we’ll all find ourselves desperately trying to explain what physical controllers meant to gaming, and though we’ll probably have fail miserably, a quick look back at this quaint little sketch will bring us back to a better place in time.
A note from the artist himself:
“Not so much of a joke as it’s just an ..read the full article
