whatsite

Some of our older readers might remember John “Wardrox” Kershaw- well, he’s moved on from Ripten and is now spending his time creating odd web games to test your gaming blog knowledge. Can you guess which site ran which headline?

The game is playable here on John’s excellent gaming news aggregator Wire.vg.  It asks simply “What site ran this headline?” with a date and gives you a few options to choose from. When you get up to the harder difficulties you’ll ..read the full article

According to the Witcher’s Facebook Page, CDProjekt is not going to, “sacrifice” the game’s development for consoles at the moment.  They are simply focused on a great PC title … for now.

Here’s the direct quote:

To be clear – no part of The Witcher 2′s development is being sacrificed for console development. The focus is on delivering a great PC title for Q1 next year… the engine is CAPABLE of console development, but we are currently focused on the PC game ..read the full article

At today’s Call of Duty: Black Ops live event, Treyarch showed off the new “wager” matches and four new modes of play. As somebody who pledges allegiance to Infinity Ward, I have to say that Black Ops is looking very, very good.

Valve has promised “at least three big surprises” in the next year. However, no further details were given.

“I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do. That isn’t going to stop any time soon. I’m just laughing because… people will be shocked again,” Gabe Newell told PC Gamer.

“We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least.”

spider-man-shattered-dimensions-600x337 “Look Out…Here Come the Spider-Men!”  The newly released trailer for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is awesome!  What especially impresses is the different styles in art and gameplay shown for the four displayed playable characters.  It looks to be a promising return to the days of pre-movie Spider-Man Game webslinging fun.   The player will be able to control four versions of Spider-Man, spanning the Amazing, Noir, 2099, and Ultimate universes.  Each character has different moves, abilities, art-style and personality.  Because of the variety and ..read the full article

FirstPersonMod_1588_1247960613

Ever wonder what it would be like to terrorize the streets of Liberty City from a first-person perspective?  Wonder no longer.  Thanks to a mod created for the PC version, you can experience it yourself.

From this new perspective Liberty City definitely looks more alive.  Minute details are more visable as even the inside of a Burger shot looks impressive while weapon fire effects are closer, thus more noticeable. It’s obvious from this youtube video that combat and driving are more challenging.

mafia 2 demo

Mafia II has shot to the top of the UK charts this week, with the biggest game launch since Red Dead Redemption 14 weeks ago.

The Xbox 360 version took 52% of the total sales, with the PS3 taking 41% and the PC taking 7%. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption, Kane and Lynch, and Toy Story 3 are still doing well, only slipping a place from last week. Wii Sports Resort is also doing fairly well, still.

amd kills ati

AMD have announced that they will be getting rid of the ATi graphics brand in a move to simplify their branding strategies.

John Volkmann, vice president of global corporate marketing at AMD, has named several reasons why the brand will be removed. From their research, the company found that “the Radeon brand and the ATI brand are equally strong with respect to conveying our graphics processor offering.”

Volkmann went on to note that the “combination of AMD and Radeon actually proved to ..read the full article

veyron nfs

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is looking like it may be the best Need for Speed game ever made, and may even rival Burnout for the most adrenaline-fueled game on the market. That’s not all, however- there are also licensed cars.

Playfront have revealed the full list of them, and it reads like a list of all the most desirable modern supercars. The Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX, Aston Martin DBS, and even the mythical McLaren F1 are on the list. Anyone ..read the full article

far cry 3

Two Swedish game retailers, Webhallen and the localised version of ‘GAME’, have listed Far Cry 3 for release in “2010″.

The listing on GAME’s website simply notes: “Rumor says that this time the game will be played out in Africa but with an even larger world and with a completely updated Dunia engine.

“More information will follow closer to launch.”

Although both retailers list the game for 2010, we’ve not had any confirmation of this news. It seems odd for the game to ..read the full article

telltale teaser

Telltale Games have released a teaser video today promoting a new game, and it hints at some interesting things. The game reveal will be coming next week, but there are a few clues as to what it might be.

First, there’s the silhouettes- Tycho from Penny Arcade, Max from Sam & Max, the Heavy from Team Fortress 2, and Strongbad from Homestar Runner. An eclectic mix, but anything with the Heavy and Max gets a thumbs up from me.

There’s also the ..read the full article

robostitute

An ESRB listing for Fallout: New Vegas has revealed that the game will heavily suggest (but not show on-screen) robotic hanky-panky. There’s also a Robot named ‘Fisto.’

“Fisto reporting for duty . . . Please assume the position,” is just one of the brilliant phrases you’ll hear, as listed by the ratings board. There’s also these two beauties: “I suppose I should test you out . . . Servos active!” and “Something wrong with someone if they got to f**k a ..read the full article

bible

What better way to get young ones interested in the bible than to make The Bible Online, a strategy-based MMO that resembles Age of Empires? The first chapter of the game, Heroes, which goes into open beta on September 6th, will follow the book of Genesis as players guide Abraham and his people to the promised land.

The game is being developed by German MMO developer FIAA, the people behind Kalos War and Operation7.

worms reloaded review 1

It’s the return to the platform that truly launched the Worms series for Worms Reloaded- but will it be able to live up to the greatness of the old favourites? Luckily, I’ve written a review for you.

Worms Reloaded is the first 2D Worms game on the PC since 2001. It’s also the best Worms game since then, keeping the fantastic gameplay completely intact but adding a plethora of excellently-implemented features. It’s not often you get to say words like these, ..read the full article

core i7

If you’re looking into building a gaming PC in the near future, you might want to wait until August has finished- as Intel will be cutting the price of their Core i7 950 processors.

The 3.06GHz Intel Core i7 950 is currently selling for a touch over $560 on Amazon, but after August 30 the processor will be cut to just $294. Of course it’s more expensive in the UK, but it’s still a hefty price cut on one of the ..read the full article

ArmA2Logo

Bohemia Interactive have announced today that their “British Armed Forces” content pack for ARMA 2 has been released, and is available for download.

The DLC adds “a new campaign, numerous single missions and a brand new faction and environment,” and of course letting you play as the finest army in the entire world. No, not Al-Qaeda, that’s in Medal of Honor. It’s the British Army, of course.

You can grab the DLC here but unfortunately due to technical hitches the ..read the full article
