cod black ops

Treyarch have already announced dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops, but there’s another pleasant surprise for PC gamers- the game will be getting a developer console and the ability to mod the game.

In a post in the official forums by a developer, Treyarch have confirmed that they “plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch.”

The developer noted, however, that they’re not sure of the capabilities modders will have: “We do not know yet to what extent ..read the full article

linus chipophone

When Swedish software engineer and musician Linus Åkesson was given an old electric organ, he didn’t just resign it to the corner of the room. No, he first turned it into an amazing chiptune-playing masterpiece, capable of putting out endless amounts of classic music from the old days of gaming on the fly- and then put it in the corner of the room.

Luckily, he also made some footage of the Chipophone while it was there, so we can all revel ..read the full article

alien swarm ep3

While playing with the SDK of Alien Swarm, Valve’s brilliant new free game, one user of the Steam Forums has pointed out that some assets labeled “ep3″ are available. They appear in a list with other assets tagged as “HL1″, meaning the original Half-Life, so the prefixes appear to be used to reference the game of origin. This would mean that the “ep3″ assets are from Episode 3 (or maybe the little-known Valve porn, Episodic Penetration 3).

Half-Life 2: Episode 3 ..read the full article

Movie games suck, right? It seems like the bigger the budget the more destined they are to fail. By that logic, then, FPS Terminator must succeed. It’s a not-so little shooter project by The Original Studios based on the Unreal Engine. The game was originally just a mod and has evolved into a full-blown indie title at this point.

FPS: Terminator is set in the future world of the Terminator universe, after the machines have taken over. In the demo video, ..read the full article

alien sawrm or sommat

You may remember on Friday we reported that Valve were to release a free game on Steam. Well, the time has come to add yourself to the long, long line of people trying to grab the game from Valve’s servers.

The game is totally free, and can be obtained here. If you’re having trouble downloading the game, try going into Settings>Downloads and changing your location to somewhere close, but less densely populated by Valve fans than your current location. For instance, ..read the full article

indiana jones l4d2

I hadn’t realised that there was a crossover between Left 4 Dead 2 fans and Disneyland obsessives, but now we know there is at least one: a fan has recreated the entire Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye ride from Disneyland, California in Left 4 Dead 2.

We’ve seen the Adventurer’s Club recreated in Half-Life, but it’s another thing to recreate the entire ride like this. He’s even managed to get all the sounds from inside the ride.

The video ..read the full article

room

In March 2009, Breben of Facepunch set out to recreate one of Disney World’s most beloved defunct attractions. Though the Adventurers Club closed to the public last fall, it has reopened to all its fans on the Half-Life engine. The resemblance is uncanny.

The attraction opened at Disney World in 1989 on Pleasure Island, where it entertained guests with musical numbers, various skits, and good ole’ fashion 1930′s innuendos.  Its iconic features like the giant face of Babylonia and ..read the full article

lemmings iphone

Mobile 1UP developer Aaron Ardiri has managed to port a PalmOS version of the classic game Lemmings over to four different platforms in a space of just 36 hours.

Ardiri managed to port the game and get it up on the iPhone App Store and Palm App Catalog, Windows, and Mac (click to download- all versions are free).

A video of the iPhone version can be spotted below. It’s a huge feat to port and entire game over to another platform ..read the full article

How many times have you been in public waiting around doing nothing? I’m sure we’ve all been in that annoying predicament of waiting at the doctors or for the bus and wishing we had something better to do!Well thanks to our ever watching Big Brother-esque eye, we stumbled upon an interesting little project/hobby video.

This user originally figured out how to play Xbox LIVE through his Droid Incredible, but as they say “necessity is the mother of all invention” ..read the full article

Time Crysis (sorry)

This mod for Crysis spawns a drivable Delorean from the classic Back to the Future films. That’s cool enough in itself, but somehow the modder has managed to make the car able to go back in time (see video below). It creates a time portal and sends you back through the in-game day. Fun and functional!

By the way, I know what you’re thinking, and yes- this probably is one of the best uses for Crysis (another being simply to ..read the full article

The Charger is really fun to use.

If you bought Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC, you might be pleased to hear that some modders have figured out a way to import all of the maps from Left 4 Dead into Left 4 Dead 2, playable with the new infected, new survivors, and the baseball bat. It’s a complex process compared to most mods, and it suffers from a few major problems at the time of writing, unfortunately.

The only new weapon that works is the bat, ..read the full article

I hear the Russian team always wins despite being a smaller team

One day, far into the future, gaming blogs will stop reporting on the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. This is not that day. The PC version has been split open by ‘hackers’ (a term I hate using, as I am not in an ’80s movie) to reveal some hidden game modes, outlined below.

The first gametype – “gtnw” – is Global Thermonuclear War. To play, simply capture the objective: a nuclear bomb. When captured, the bomb detonates… The second gametype – ..read the full article

xbox-mods-600k-banned

In an on going effort to eliminate modded consoles from accessing their Xbox LIVE service, Microsoft has reportedly banned an estimated 600,000 accounts — a tad over one-fortieth of their LIVE subscribing customer base.

Banned users will likely still be able to use their console offline, assuming they don’t throw it into a wall or drive over it upon receiving the news.

hacked-warfare

As you can see in the above video, The video has been removed by Activision due to copyright laws, however the video would have given you visual evidence that someone has already managed to create an Aimbot and wall-hack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It’s pretty obvious that dedicated servers are not the cause of hackers, but simply online multiplayer. The fact that these idiots can operate on IWNet is even worse than them being on dedicated servers; ..read the full article
