LoTRO Dev Diary Opens the Lid on Buried Treasure Event

February 11th, 2012 | Categories: Playstation News, Ripten

In Turbine’s latest Developer Diary for The Lord of The Rings Online, the subject of the MMO’s forthcoming Buried Treasure event is under discussion.  The upcoming event will allow players to, unsurprisingly, search the land for buried treasure.  By working with each other, players will be able to excavate dig sites in pursuit of the rare Huge Treasure Cache.  The event will utilize public instancing to avoid overcrowding, but players can still expect to encounter each other as they comb the treasure field.

Upon arriving in Ered Luin, an introductory quest will explain the mechanics of tools such as treasure hunter’s picks, dowsing gems, and trained cave-claws.  Treasure hunter’s picks are required to excavate dig sites, while cave-claws are pets which will sniff out the location of the nearest treasure cache.  Finally, dowsing gems allow players to determine the quality of a dig site before committing to unearthing it.

Dig sites will always contain a treasure cache, and may contain barter tokens, a chance at a trained cave-claw, dowsing gem and treasure hunter’s picks.  The treasure cache itself can contain a unique cosmetic item, housing item, new themed emotes and the possibility of a mount.
